Just year ago, I won an incredible trip through work. I was awarded the AMAZING experience of riding on the historic Rocky Mountaineer! For those not familiar, it is a luxury train that takes you on various paths through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. This experience for me was so great for many reasons. First off, it was my FIRST time on the west coast of Canada (Shame on me!). Second of all, this is a trip many people dream of, and I was given the opportunity to participate!
I started this journey over in Vancouver, BC. Again I have never been to the west coast, and once there, I was so angry at myself! I have travelled a lot of the world by this point, and it was almost shameful to know that there was so much beauty in my own backyard- and I took it for granted… and this was only day ONE!
On the second day we had boarded the monumental train, and to see all those faces, who were realizing their dreams and checking off that item on their bucket list was very inspiring. The train in its self is very impressive. I was very lucky to have been able to enjoy this experience in Gold Leaf service (first class of train travel). Panoramic windows, gourmet meals, perfect wine and even better views. To this day I have dreams of the eggs Benedict breakfast. The fact that a train, could have 5 star level dining is absolutely flooring. Not to mention the chefs will cater to any and every need and dietary request. Just amazing to see!
This was a two-day train ride that takes you right through the Rockies, Vancouver to Banff in my case. It seemed as though the views got more and more epic from one hour to the next. The service on board was impeccable, and exactly as it would be expected. Along with the views came wonderful history lessons and stories- A really great experience for everyone onboard. It was almost sad to leave the train. It was such a unique experience and I am very thankful that I was able to experience it the way I had.
WORTH THE JET LAG?
This is definitely an experience to put on a bucket list. HOWEVER, it may not be for everyone. For starters, I suggest you like trains. It is a phenomenal experience, but start putting some coins away in that piggy bank because this experience does not come cheap! After all, this is an incredibly luxurious, 5 star experience. For those thinking that this may be for you, I will always suggest it, for many who live in Canada, and especially for those who don’t, this is a great way to see the Western side of this country. One thing to consider as well, on board clientele for the most part are 40 years +, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but for the younger folk, please do not expect this to be a party train. Unless of course the Aussies are on board! Then it is a party train, and i mean that in the best way possible!
Definitely worth the Jet Lag, near or far- but remember, start saving those pennies!
